Weasel Radio will be live tonight at 9 p.m. central. Click the link to listen to the stream, or download the podcast in the a.m.
UPDATE: Direct link to the download of the show is HERE.
Weasel Radio went live tonight with in-studio guest Kurt Baker of the mighty Leftovers, and I rambled incessantly about my adventures in replacing a soffit cap. You can download the podcast HERE. Our schedule will be changing here and there over the next month or so. We'll always be on at 7 p.m. Central weekly, but it won't always be on Wednesdays. Keep an eye on the blog for updates!
We have a new (and, with any luck, permanent) day and time for Weasel Radio: Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Central. If you haven't heard it yet, Weasel Radio features yours truly and Madison sports radio legend-in-the-making Owen Murphy talking about sports and music. To listen, follow the above link or go to ESPN1070.com - you'll also find info on how to call in or e-mail during the show. If you miss it, it'll be downloadable as a podcast some time after the show (most likely the next day).
UPDATE: We were bumped off the live feed due to a high school football game (Sauk Prairie took the field against Waunakee) (by the way, Waunakee won, in case you were waiting on tenterhooks for the outcome of what I'm sure was a thrilling contest) so we had to record the show as a podcast, which is downloadable HERE. Obviously we're still working out the bugs but starting next week we are indeed live Wednesday nights at 7 central.
Looks like the RIAA has scored another Pyrrhic victory - this time against a Minnesota woman who illegally downloaded a bunch of major label music.
I don't see how pursuing and winning massive judgments against individual music thieves is the best way to address the problem. The case against Napster was successful, in part, because Napster provided the forum for illegal file-sharing and, according to the court, knew that illegal file-sharing was occurring. But the federal court ruled in favor of Grokster, Morpheus and KaZaA in 2003, ruling that those services weren't actively encouraging people to use their software illegally. If the RIAA can't make their case against the companies that are crippling the music industry then it's time to regroup and move on.
I don't have much sympathy for people who share music files illegally but neither do I see the point in going after them for enormous judgments. Certainly the RIAA has a right to do so, and I support that right, but I don't see how it's supposed to fix the problem. Has there been a significant decrease in illegal file-sharing in the wake of the judgments against the defendants in any of these cases? I seriously doubt it.
The horse left the barn years ago and the RIAA goofs are still trying to close the gate. You and I couldn't do any better if we were writing a comedy script.

I don't know about you but I really like the radio announcer guy (I have no idea who he is) saying my name in the exaggerated radio announcer guy voice. Anyway, it was a little rough but not bad for a first show. Owen's obviously the pro and I'm the greenhorn/newb/bumbling goof but I'll catch up sooner or later. Evidently we're going to be doing this more or less every week so feel free to call in or e-mail during the show.
